5th ANNIVERSARY SEASON BY EXPANDING ITS SPRING 2018 PROGRAMS
Seven different programs including plays, musicals, storytelling, acting classes and Broadway number dancing offer theater experiences for all ages, from pre-k kids to senior adults
Miramar Beach, Fla. (Jan. 3, 2017) — Emerald Coast Theatre Company invites theater lovers of all ages to find their place on the stage. ECTC announces details for its 2018 Spring Classes, which offer “something for everyone.”
“We started with education outreach for children and now we are thrilled to add a few new programs designed for adults and seniors, in particular,” said ECTC producing artistic director Nathanael Fisher. “It is our mission to serves the needs of everyone in our community — and that means all ages — and we hope our enhanced offerings for Spring 2018 do just that.”
The roster of seven different theater programs for Spring 2018 follows below:
ECTC Little Rascals Program
“Once Upon A Rhyme”
Pre K (4 year-olds) - 1st grade (6 year-olds), Tuesdays 3:30-4:20 p.m., Jan. 16 - March 13
Everyone knows the classic tales and rhymes, but what happens when their worlds collide? Join the Little Rascals for a good old-fashioned romp as they bring our favorite bedtime story characters off the page and onto the stage. Designed specifically for its youngest players, ECTC’s Little Rascals class focus on activities that allow students to explore acting, singing and movement in an energetic, nurturing environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. This class culminates with a mini play and music performance on the last day of class.
ECTC Kids Program
Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Kids”
Rehearsals Tuesdays (3-5th Grade) 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday (1-3rd Grade) 4-6 p.m.
Classes: Jan. 9 through April 14 (extra rehearsals may be scheduled prior to performances)
Final Performances: (1-3 Grade) Saturday, April 21 2 p.m., (3-5 Grade) Friday, April 20 and Saturday April 21 at 7:30 p.m., $12 admission
Roald Dahl's timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir is a golden ticket to adventure. Roald Dahl's “Willy Wonka Kids” has many featured and ensemble roles, including the singing and dancing Oompa-Loompas. Everyone gets a part and enjoys weekly classes/rehearsals of singing, dancing and acting.
Creative Dramatics: Acting for Elementary Students
Grades 3-5, Rehearsals Wednesdays, 4:30-6 p.m., Jan. 17 - May 16 Students will concentrate on acting techniques to create strong characters while rehearsing the non-musical play “In the Forest Grim” by Cate Fricke. Taken from the Brothers Grimm tales including "The Robber Bridegroom" and "The Juniper Tree,” “Hansel and Gretel” and others. The final performance will be a part of the Northwest Florida Theatre Festival onMay 19.
ECTC Homeschool Program
“Aesop’s Fables”
2nd to 6th grade, Rehearsals January 18 to May 17, 11 a.m.- Noon Rehearsals will take place at Rise Dance Studio, located at the Plantation Plaza (where Marshall’s is located) at 4495 Commons Drive West in Destin
Through a series of drama lessons, students will create their own showcase of “Aesop’s Fables” presentations. Lessons will include acting exercises with concentration on strong character development; critical thinking lessons using improvisation to create their own version or extensions of fables; and a final performance on the ECTC Stage at the NWFL Theatre Festival on May 19.
ECTC Teens Program
Disney's “High School Musical Junior”
Grades 6-10
Rehearsals Saturdays 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Classes: January 13 - April 28 (extra rehearsals may be scheduled prior to performances)
Final Performances: Friday May 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday May 5 at 2 p.m., $15 admission
We're all in this together in Disney Channel's smash hit musical phenomenon featuring the students of East High. The show’s infectious, danceable songs are sure to engage performers and audiences alike. Everyone gets a part and is a part of our “tribe” of students engaged in live theater.
ECTC Jr. Thespian Troupe Program
“The 10 Best/Worst Things About Middle School”
Grades 5 - 8, February 10 - May 19
Join ECTC and Seaside Neighborhood School’s Jr. Thespian Troupe and work on your craft as an actor. This class will focus on the production of the play “The 10 Best/Worst Things About Middle School” by M.G. Davidson with the final performance being a part of the Northwest Florida Theatre Festival on May 19.
ECTC Snowbirds Program
Broadway Birdies
Thursdays from 9am - 10:30am, from Jan 11 - March 1, $15 a class $105 for all 8 classes.
Join ECTC’s teaching artists and learn simple choreography to some of your favorite Broadway show tunes. We will keep it light and easy so the focus will be on fun, light movement and enjoying each other's company. The group will perform for friends and family at ECTC the last day of class.
Adult Acting Classes
Audition & Monologue Techniques
Teen/Adult, Tuesdays, 7-9 p.m., March 6 - April 24, $95 Through a series of acting exercises, students will create an audition monologue to be presented to the class on the final day. Multiple techniques and approaches will be explored including improvisation, cold reading, character, and script analysis, emotional and sensory recall — ultimately leading to motivated physicality/blocking for the audition selection.
