EMERALD COAST THEATRE COMPANY LAUNCHES 5TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON WITH EXPANDED OFFERINGS FOR ADULTS, TEENS AND KIDS

ECTC’s 2017-18 Season includes Four Professional Main Stage Productions,

Three Professional Theatre for Young Audiences Productions,

Four Educational Theatre Productions and More

Miramar Beach, Fla. (July 7, 2017) — Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) takes the center stage spotlight for a moment to celebrate the launch of its fifth anniversary season on the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast.

ECTC is a non-profit professional theater company founded by Nathanael Fisher, MFA, and his wife, Anna, in 2012 with a mission to enrich and entertain the Emerald Coast community through professional and educational theater.

"This fifth-year season is such an exciting time for Emerald Coast Theater Company,” said ECTC producing artistic director Nathanael Fisher. “It is thrilling to be presenting programming for the whole community — we truly have something for any age! We are grateful to our community for its unwavering support of our growing theater company and invite everyone to come join as we celebrate this humbling milestone throughout the season.”

After five years, ECTC has clearly established itself as a professional theater company focused on staging thought-provoking productions, festivals and creative collaborations as well as a valued community resource for professional acting, improv workshops and even creative corporate team building.

ECTC has expanded its professional main stage productions to four. The 2017-18 season will include a musical comedy, a play, a docudrama and a romantic comedy.

All professional mainstage production schedules are Thursday (opening night) throughSaturday at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. (unless noted otherwise). And all ECTC productions will be staged at ECTC’s space located upstairs at 560 Grand Boulevard in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, located in Miramar Beach, Florida.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” with music by Jimmy Roberts, book and lyrics by Joe Dipietro opens the season Sept. 14, 2017 and runs through Oct. 1, 2017.

A musical comedy with everything you ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit. This production runs 120 minutes and is appropriate for ages 13 and up due to some mature themes and language.

“A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L'Engle, adapted by John Glore is set for Dec. 7-23, 2017. The running time is 75 minutes and includes an additional matinee onSaturday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m.

One of literature's most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back-stubbornness, braces, and all. Once again, she's joining forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O'Keefe and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love can overcome evil and 2. There is such a thing as a tesseract. Appropriate for ages 5 and up (no lap children please).

“The Amish Project” by Jessica Dickey is a 90-minute docudrama set for January 18-28, 2018.

A fictional exploration of the Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting in an Amish community, “The Amish Project” explores the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake. Due to mature content, this production is appropriate for ages 13 and up.

A modern romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog, A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia”centers on the world of a middle-aged New York couple turned topsy-turvy when the husband brings home an exceptionally engaging canine running loose in Central Park. “Sylvia” will be staged Feb. 15 through March 4. It runs 120 minutes and is appropriate for ages 13 and up due to mature situations.

Ticket prices for the musical production, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” are $30 for adult, $26 for senior, $22 student for the musical. Tickets for non-musical productions are $28 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $20 for students.

Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Professional Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) is a program that showcases professional actors performing productions especially selected for young audience members.

ECTC’s 2017-18 Theatre for Young Audiences offerings are:

“The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” Fridays and Saturdays October 13-28, 2017, 10 a.m., All Ages

Stanley Lambchop is your ordinary, everyday ten-year-old until the bulletin board on the wall above his bed comes loose and falls right on top of him. Stanley’s journey takes him across the globe, to many interesting locales, filled with lots of colorful characters. The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley is filled with infectious songs and non-stop adventure, making this a perfect show to introduce young audiences to the magic of live theatre.

“A Mark Twain Storybook” Fridays and Saturdays January 26-February 3, 2018, 10 a.m., Ages 6 and up

A troupe of actors re-tell some of Mark Twain’s most popular stories in “The Quatrocentennial edition of America’s most loved traveling show, The Celebrated Mark Twain Storybook and Musicale Review!” They cover Tom Sawyer, The Good Little Boy (and, conversely, The Bad Little Boy), The Jumping Frog, What Stumped the Bluejays, Experience of the McWilliamses with Membranous Croup, and The Prince and the Pauper. A Mark Twain Storybook is a vaudeville inspired, rollicking delight.

“Aesop's Fables”

Fridays and Saturdays April 6-14, 2018 10 a.m., All Ages

Wolfie, Syd, Barry and Harriet invite you into their magical world where anything is possible when you use your imagination. Whether it’s The Tortoise and The Hare or The Boy Who Cried Wolf, everyone knows at least one of Aesop’s great Fables. In this spellbinding production, storytellers use song, dance and drama to bring these famous fables to life.

ECTC’s Educational Theatre Productions are designed for kids from first grade to 10th grade. The 2017-18 season will be presented in the Fall and Spring (dates TBD) as follows:

FALL 2017

“The Addams Family”

Teens (6th-10th grade)

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, is all grown up and has a shocking secret that only Gomez knows. She's fallen in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family. With his cherished Morticia in the dark, will Gomez manage to keep his daughter’s secret until the two families meet for a fateful dinner with hilarious consequences? Join them, plus Uncle Fester, Lurch, Pugsley and more for a heartwarming story of love, family, and friendship… with a twist!

“Disney Aristocats KIDS”

1st-5th grade

Based on the beloved Disney animated film, this show is a non-stop thrill ride of feline fun, complete with unbelievable twists and turns. In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionaires wills her estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper. Now it’s time for the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day.

SPRING 2018

“Once on This Island”

Teens (6th-10th grade)

Though almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls and in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a guest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death.

“Magic Treehouse: Pirates Past Noon”

1st-5th grade

An adaptation of Mary Pope Osborne’s award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House series. This time around, Jack and Annie’s tree house takes them to an exotic island filled with pirates. It is here that the two discover the power of friendship and the simple pleasures in everyday life.
