EMERALD COAST THEATRE COMPANY PARTNERS WITH LOCAL ARTISTS AND BRINGS IN A POP-UP GALLERY
Miramar Beach, FL—October marks the third season Lowkylzart has partnered with Emerald Coast Theatre Company to enhance its theatre experience with local art. Those who love the art of live theatre will also appreciate new local art in ECTC’s new space for the 2016-17 season beginning Oct. 21 and running through Nov. 6. The gallery opens one hour before each performance of “Constellations” at 560 Grand Boulevard upstairs, and the nonprofit theatre company will receive 20% of all art sales.
The public is invited to view and purchase the art before and after the show, and tickets are not required for the gallery. According to art organizer Lori Drew of Lowkylzart, “This is another wonderful opportunity for our amazing local artists to gain exposure while benefiting a great organization. At the same time, collectors have a chance to enjoy, and hopefully purchase, work from a wide variety of seasoned and emerging artists.”
Drew further explained the challenge of hanging art in the space above retail stores at 560 Grand Boulevard. “A huge wall of windows lets in wonderful natural light, but we needed to come up with a way to hang art without putting holes in walls. We decided to go with the industrial look and hang recycled chain fencing from the overhead beams,” she said. “I can’t wait to see it all come together for our theatre friends to enjoy.”
More than 25 local artists will have their work displayed in the temporary gallery, and mediums include original paintings in watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, photography and even benches created with reclaimed wood, all keeping with the theme of “Beyond the Boundaries.” Artists include: Judy Dewar, Cynthia Newhouse, Meg Nelson, Leslie Hathorn, Sharon Long, Carol Dickson, Ann Welch, Robin Wiesneth, Juan Francisco Adaro, Weezie Bancroft Brabner, Donna Burgess, Cheryl Gray, Helga Letourneau, Kay Richoux, Jamie Conley, Susan Alfieri, Patti Overholt, Betty Cork, Suzanne LeLoup West, Nan Ream, JoAnne Jones, Joey McKenna, Maggie Dickhaus, Donnelle Clark, Melissa Mercer Brown, Linda Kernick, Quinton Woodham, Lori Drew, and Susan Lucas.
Constellations will run Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinée at 2 p.m., October 20 through November 6. A VIP preview will be October 20th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $15 for students, and $40 for the VIP preview that includes a post-show reception with ECTC’s board and the cast of the show. Performances will take place in the beautiful new venue at 560 Grand Boulevard, Upstairs. The entrance is on the Highway 98 side of the building and there is elevator access.
